Seasonal (or Not) Berry Crumble Topping
Every spring we plant a garden and tend to our berry patch, hoping for a bounty. What we lack on our own land, we make up for with wild neighborhood blackberries and generous berry gifts from friends (bless your hearts!). My lack of baking prowess sent me straight to the internet to find the easiest ways to envelope the berries in a sweet treat for the fam. Here’s my go-to berry crumble recipe.
Even if it’s not summer, sometimes I’ll simply use a handful of frozen berries, and the recipe turns out almost as delish as knowing the berries were foraged by friends.
NOTE: Spread this topping on a few cups of fresh or frozen berries. I like to grease a small baking dish with butter before dumping in the fruit.
INGREDIENTS:
*All measurements are approximate—I typically just eyeball
⅓ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
4 tablespoons melted butter
2/3-ish cups all-purpose flour
INSTRUCTIONS:
Combine all ingredients in a bowl.
To make a berry crumble: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease a small baking dish with butter. Add a few cups of berries and sprinkle the mixture on top. Bake for around 15-20 minutes (watch for the mixture to melt and bubble). For best results, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
