Allison's Sloppy Joes
MY short-cut recipes typically come from a lack of time or a need to substitute ingredients. I took featured lady Allison’s go-to of The Pioneer Woman’s Sloppy Joes and substituted bison for beef and red pepper for green. You guys! If you can chop an onion, pepper, and mince garlic first thing in the morning or even the night before, you can make this recipe later in a jiffy! Of course you could use ground beef or even turkey, but the bison is so lean and delish—give it a try!
INGREDIENTS:
2 Tablespoons butter
1 pound ground bison
1 medium onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup ketchup
1 cup water
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
1.5 teaspoons dry mustard
INSTRUCTIONS:
In a large skillet melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add bison and cook until brown. Add onion, red pepper, and garlic. Sauté until veggies become soft. Incorporate water and ketchup and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Add spices, stir, and continue simmering for around 5 minutes. At this point, toast buttered hamburger buns under a broiler. Once done, load up with the sloppy joe mixture and enjoy!
